Octaluz
Privacy Policy
Summary
- You play without an account. We don't ask for your name, email or phone number.
- Your best score, settings and daily challenge progress stay on your device only.
- Daily challenge reminders start off: they only appear if you turn them on, are created on your device and send no data to anyone.
- Sharing a result is optional: the game only opens the Android share screen, and you choose where it goes.
- The game is free and shows ads from Google AdMob, always non-personalized: they are not chosen based on your profile. To show them, Google collects technical data from your device, such as the advertising ID and IP address.
- You can pay once to remove ads. Google Play makes and processes the payment: we do not receive your card or payment details.
- The game has no chat or contact between players, sells no random items and suggests a break after every 30 minutes of continuous play (20 for players under 18). Parents and guardians, see section 7.
- In Brazil, Google Play may ask whether you want to share your age range with the game. It is only used to adapt the game for minors: it is not stored, not sent to anyone and does not change the ads.
1. Who is responsible
Octaluz (“the app”) is published by OTUS, a brand of Vinicius Santana Neves, an independent developer based in Brazil and the controller of the personal data processed in the app under the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (Law No. 13,709/2018, the LGPD). For any privacy matter, write to otus.dev@gmail.com.
2. Data that stays on your device
The app stores on your device your best score, your settings (sound, vibration, reminders and board theme), your progress in the Daily Light challenge (the days you turned the light on, used in the calendar and trophies, your streak, your streak shields and the days they saved, the free continues you earned and the day the challenge invitation was shown), the boosters you have saved, whether you removed ads (yes or no), your first steps in the game (whether you have seen the tutorial and tips, and how many games and days of play you have had), when the game asked for your rating and the day the new-version notice was shown. This data is not sent to us or to third parties. It is deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its data in your Android settings. The age range Google Play may provide (section 6) is not stored.
3. Daily challenge reminders
Daily Light challenge reminders start off. If you turn them on in Settings (gear icon) > Daily Light reminder, the app shows one heads-up a day, late afternoon, only while today's light is still off, and stops after 7 days without you opening the game. Reminders are scheduled and shown by Android itself, on your device. No data is sent to us or to third parties because of them.
When you turn reminders on, the app asks for the notification permission (on Android 13 or newer) and uses the notice that your device has restarted to schedule the reminders again. You can turn them off at any time in the same place or in Android's notification settings.
4. Ads (Google AdMob)
The app is free and supported by ads from Google AdMob: a banner at the bottom, full-screen ads between games and videos you choose to watch to earn a reward in the game, such as continuing the game or doubling your points.
All ads in the app are non-personalized: the app asks Google not to choose them based on your profile, history or interests. They may only take context into account, such as the app itself and your approximate location.
Even without personalization, to show and measure these ads, limit how often each one appears and prevent fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK included in the app automatically collects and sends to Google:
- your IP address, which may be used to estimate the approximate location of your device;
- device identifiers: the Android advertising ID and the app set ID;
- interactions with the app and with ads, such as app launches, taps and video views;
- diagnostic and performance information about the app and the SDK.
This data goes straight from your device to Google, encrypted in transit. We do not receive your individual data: we only see aggregate reports, such as the number of ads shown. Google's use of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. See also how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. Google may process this data on servers outside Brazil.
Legal bases: legitimate interest (LGPD, art. 7, IX), to keep the app free with ads and to prevent fraud; and consent, in the regions where the law requires it.
Remove ads (in-app purchase)
You can buy the “Remove ads” option, once. It removes the banner and the full-screen ads; reward videos stay available, but only play if you choose to watch them. The purchase is made through Google Play, with the payment method on your Google account. Google processes the payment under Google’s terms and privacy policy, and we do not receive or store your name, card or any payment details. The app only keeps, on your device, the fact that the purchase was made. When the app opens, it asks Google Play to confirm the purchase, which lets you recover it if you reinstall the game or switch phones with the same Google account.
5. Your ad choices
- Advertising ID: in your Android settings, you can reset or delete your advertising ID. The path depends on the device; it is usually Settings > Google > Ads or Settings > Privacy > Ads.
- Consent: in regions where the law requires consent for ads, such as the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the app shows Google's consent form before loading ads. You can change your choice at any time in Settings (gear icon) > Ad privacy. This option only appears in those regions.
6. Children and teens
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Teens may play, and the app follows Brazil's Digital Statute of Children and Adolescents (Law No. 15,211/2025, the Digital ECA): ads are always non-personalized and limited to content suitable for all ages with parental guidance (Google's PG rating) or below, and no player profile is built for advertising.
Age range from Google Play
In Brazil, the Digital ECA asks app stores to tell apps the age range of the person playing. So when you open the app, Google Play may ask whether you want to share your age range with Octaluz. Google Play provides the range under its own rules and the law; when it asks, sharing is up to you or your parents or guardians. Without the range, the app works the same way.
If the range is provided, the app receives only the range (for example, 13 to 15), never your date of birth, and uses it only to adapt the game: for players under 18, the reminder option does not appear (and is turned off if it was on) and the break suggestion comes after every 20 minutes of continuous play. The range is not stored, not sent to anyone and does not change the ads, which are the same for everyone.
7. For parents and guardians
- No contact between players: the app has no chat, profiles, friend lists or any way to talk to other people.
- No loot boxes: the app sells no random items. In-game rewards, such as boosters, are fixed and known in advance.
- Ads: always non-personalized and rated up to Google's PG (parental guidance), for every player.
- Purchases: the only purchase is “Remove ads”, made through Google Play. With Google Family Link, parents can require approval for purchases and downloads.
- Screen time: after every 30 minutes of continuous play (20 for players under 18, when Google Play provides the age), the end-of-game card suggests a break. To limit screen time and see how much the app was used, use Family Link or Android's Digital Wellbeing.
- Notifications: reminders start off and come at most once a day. For players under 18, when Google Play provides the age, the option doesn't even appear.
- Questions and reports: write to otus.dev@gmail.com.
8. Sharing
We do not sell personal data. Apart from Google, for ads and, through Google Play, for the purchase, the rating card, the age range and the new-version check, the app uses no third-party service that collects data: there is no login, no social networks and no usage analytics tools.
If you tap “Share” at the end of a game, the app builds an image of your result (the points, the final board and, in the daily challenge, the day and your streak) and opens the Android share screen. You choose the app and the people who receive it. It comes with an invitation containing a link to the game's page, with the points and the day in the address, so whoever opens it can see the result. Nothing is sent without your choice, and we receive nothing. The image is saved in the app's temporary storage, on your device, only so that Android can hand it to the app you chose.
After a good result, the app may ask Google Play to show its rating card, and the “Rate Octaluz” button in Settings opens the game's page in the store. Your rating and review go straight to Google Play, under its rules: the app receives nothing.
When you open the app, and each time you return to it, the app asks Google Play whether there is a new version. To answer, Google Play uses the installed version and technical data about your device, under its own rules: the app only receives the answer. If there is a new version, a notice at the top of the screen offers the update. It is only downloaded if you tap “Update” and confirm in the Google Play window, and only installed when you tap “Restart”.
9. How long data is kept
Your best score, settings and daily challenge progress stay on your device until you uninstall the app or clear its data. Data collected by Google follows Google's retention periods.
10. Your rights
The LGPD gives you, among others, the rights to confirm whether we process your data, to access it, correct it, request its deletion, know who it is shared with and withdraw your consent (art. 18). If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you also have rights under the GDPR, including the right to object to processing and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Since we do not keep personal data on servers of our own, most of these requests are settled on the device itself, by clearing the app's data or resetting the advertising ID, or in Google's tools.
For any request or question, write to otus.dev@gmail.com. We reply within 15 days. You can also file a complaint with Brazil's National Data Protection Authority (ANPD).
11. Security
The app does not ask for access to your precise location, camera, microphone, contacts or files. The only permission it asks for is notifications, and only when you turn reminders on. OTUS does not run servers with user data, and the communication of ads with Google is encrypted.
12. Changes to this policy
If the app starts handling data differently, this page will be updated, and the date at the top will show the version in force.
